When your traveling on the highway out of your restaurant comfort zone it is hard to know which places to try and eat at. Just because they can afford a big colorful billboard doesn't mean that the cook wasn't classically trained in some state penal system. But one thing over the years has rung true for me time after time. Don't overlook the Truck Stop!
I have to admit that at one time in my life I was a trucker, a road warrior, Billy Bigrigger... a truck drivin' man. Truckers know two things and one of them is where to eat, the other is disgusting and I cannot tell you here. Truck Stops with bad food do not thrive and either make changes or close.
On this trip I was on my way to a rally event I was going to race in. We were traveling in our F550 towing a three car trailer, about 45 foot long, so manuevability is not a word associated with this rig. We were 100 miles from our destination, we were hungry and I knew right where to go... the Flying J Truck Stop, and their Country Market Restaurant.
I have to admit I am amazed at the selection of food available now a days, seafood, gourmet burgers and in my case this particular meal, a Carolina Pulled Pork Sandwich. I was taking a chance on barbecue at such an establishment but darned if they didn't pull it off. Sweet and tangy pork, a downright respectable cole slaw and fries that were well done, not a limp one in the bunch. Others in our party orders anything from fish and chips to a taco salad, and there was high praise all the way around.
Our server was awesome, a young man, but he was a little overstretched as I think they were short handed. Still he kept coming around, refilled drinks and handled us well. Maybe I should have given four stars, but the wait for food was a little long and while everything was good, it didn't have a "Wow Factor". Still this place is a good choice for a bite to eat before traveling through Boise. -

So i have never reviewed a truck stop but this place was pretty cool if you need gas. Its huge. It has everything a trucker would need. Greasy food cafe, trucker hats, and a clean bathroom.
